Sven Considers Rio in Midfield!?

Rumour has it that Sven-Goran Eriksson will study Rio Ferdinand's ability as an emergency midfielder in the next three months. The England boss is still keen to develop the option of a midfield with a defensive screener.Eriksson said: "In some games maybe we need a sitting midfielder. Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard can do it but they are not playing that role at their clubs. Rio could be a choice. Ledley King is another choice. Michael Carrick another who is playing better and better. It depends how many times Rio plays in that role for Manchester United but it might be possible."

What is this man thinking, is he trying to find any way possible to put Rio in the team? Unless Rio suddenly develops a amazing left foot (to fill our only problem position on the left) he should feel lucky to even be on the bench! Of course this is all probably just a sign that Carragher is the better choice to parter Terry than the ManScum has been.

But com'mon this is England, United need him in the middle because they are so short of midfield players. At the international level we should be relying on players that play that role, until Erikson gets off the whole reputation is everything there's no hope for England in this years World Cup. If he plays the form players (that have international experience) and players with the drive and passion that England need then we're in with a shout, if he doesn't then we're finished!
