Footie Round Up
Since Bolton have already lost their chance to qualify for Europe and all of Middlesbrough's game are all just warm-ups for the UEFA Cup final, their game has come to mean nothing now. However, there has been plenty of action away from the Premiership tonight, mostly in Spain, Scotland and Germany:
Spain:
Without kicking a ball Barcelona have been crowned Primera Liga champions following second-placed Valencia's 2-1 defeat at Real Mallorca. Eventhough they later beat Celta Vigo the result was irrelevant to the Catalans. Valencia's loss also means that Real Madrid can leapfrog them into the second automatic Champions League spot if they win their game in hand.
Celta Vigo loss and Osasuna win over Athletico Madrid has seen them extend the gap for fourth spot (the final Champions League berth). A win or two draws from their last two games will secure Osasuna's place in the premier european competition next year.
Scotland:
Hearts beat a 10-man Aberdeen team to clinch the final Champions League spot, condemning Rangers (who did better in the competition this year than any previous Scottish club) to the UEFA Cup.
Meanwhile Inverness' win over, second from bottom, Falkirk leaves them one point off fourth place Hibernian (for the final UEFA cup spot - do Scottland have two?).
In the other meaningless games: Celtic and Motherwell disposed of Kilmarnock and relegated Livingstone (respectively).
Germany:
Beyern's win over Stuttgart puts them within 1 point of clinching the title - assuming that there's not a net goal difference loss of 9 goals between them and second placed Hamburg. The postponed game against Hamburg together with Wolfburgs loss has given Cologne a lifeline, who need to win both of their last games while hoping Wolfsburg lose their final two and Kaiserslautern fail to win theirs.
